Job Summary

UPWORK is seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Virtual Transcriptionist / Captioner (Media) to join our growing network of remote professionals. Key Responsibilities

  • Listen to and accurately transcribe audio and video files into written documents.

  • Create and synchronize captions or subtitles for media content.

  • Edit and proofread transcripts to ensure high accuracy, grammar, and readability.

  • Follow specific style guides, formatting requirements, and time-stamp conventions.

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.

  • Maintain confidentiality and securely handle client materials.

  • Communicate effectively with clients or project managers regarding specifications and clarifications.

  • Ensure proper tagging of speakers, background sounds, and other media elements as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Fast and accurate typing speed (minimum 60+ words per minute preferred).

  • Experience using transcription tools such as Express Scribe, oTranscribe, or similar software.

  • Basic understanding of captioning tools like Rev Captioner, Aegisub, or Subtitle Edit.

  • Keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

  • Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace.

  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines.

Experience

  • Entry-level to intermediate experience in transcription, captioning, or subtitling.

  • Prior work on media-related projects (interviews, podcasts, or films) is a plus.

  • Experience with Upwork or other freelance platforms is beneficial but not mandatory.
