ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reviews and makes recommendations to agency on medication policy, procedures and forms to assure compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and related KDADS licensing regulations.

Assists agency in developing guidelines for determining which clients fall under the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act.

In coordination with the training department and Division Manager: ·Provides staff in-service training and ensures staff competency on supervision of clients who take medication or perform other medical procedures while receiving agency supports and services. ·Delegates administration of medications and other procedures to non-licensed personnel after they have completed appropriate training. ·Documents which staff have received training and met criteria for delegation.

Will periodically spot check locations (residential and day services) where services are delivered to assure that medical records are appropriately maintained and that staff are following medical procedures. Report findings in writing to Division Manager.

Performs the following duties as assigned: ·Compare old Medication Administration Record (MAR) with new ones ·Check in cycle meds ·Review medical consults to stay informed of new prescriptions ·Re-order medications weekly; do follow-ups ·Take calls from Senior Care when at location ·Perform physicals for staff ·Update MAR/Med Log when medication changes occur, as assigned by DivisionManager

May do regular “Wellness Monitoring” for persons who have this service written into their HCBS plan of care. Completes appropriate paperwork for billing and sends to accounting department. Completes HCBS forms and routes to Case Manager for person’s file.

May consult with on-call staff if they have an immediate medical question about a person served.

Position will not take the place of third party community-based medical services.

Reviews and signs off on medication incident report forms.

Will sign out and use AWI vehicle for travel when available. If no vehicle is available, will use personal vehicle and send in reimbursement form monthly.

Other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

General Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Training: Registered Nurse with an associate or undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Minimum of one year nursing experience. Preference may be given to an individual who has experience working with persons who are developmentally disabled. Ability to communicate clearly with direct care staff, Case Managers, community professionals, and persons served. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with several variables in situations where limited standardization exists.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas. Valid driver’s license (safe driving record, Department of Motor Vehicles check). Must be able to provide own transportation between service delivery locations in division. Must provide proof of privately held liability insurance covering the practice of nursing.

Physical Demands: While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. May need to climb up/down stairs. The employee must occasionally lift up and/or move 25 pounds. Ability to drive car/van. Must be able to travel throughout assigned area to visit programs at agency facilities and the homes of persons served. Some homes may not be physically accessible.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary Range: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
